Ayurvedic Medicine works very well, when it is in standardized extract form and measured in milligrams. When active ingredients of a herb is extracted in high
concentration form and manufactured in capsules or tablets and measured in milligrams form, it works very well.
Dr. Pati is an authoritative, in Ayurvedic medicine and he claims, the earlier days, the activity of a herb procurement, preparation and dispensing remained mainly the responsibility of a practitioner and was on a one to one relationship between physicians and his patients It was a matter of sacred trust. However, the socio-economic changes in modern times, the technological advances, commercial factors, consumer preferences, changing lifestyles, etc. has influenced the way of Ayurvedic Drugs are being manufactured, marketed, distributed in U.S.A, Europe and Australia now.
Dr. Pati says, there are hundreds of Ayurvedic products from tablets, capsules, tinctures, perfumes, essences, aroma-therapy products are being manufactured in USA and available in health food stores and pharmacies in U.S.A. Common Indian people do not know which are Ayurvedic herbal remedies from India,. However, we know it from botanical names. There are about 100,000 Health Food stores in U.S.A alone and 20% herbal products in health food stores are from India whereas 40% from China. Among them gugul for cholesterol, gymnema (gurmar) for blood sugar, valerian for sleeplessness, boswella for arthritis, withinia (ashwagandha) as an adaptogen, psyllium as a mild laxative and many, many more. It is a several billion dollars business right now.
Now the National Institute of Health Sciences has recommended to introduce Ayurvedic Pharmacology in regular medical curriculum from next year. The U.S Government is already negotiating deals with Indian Government and Universities in India. For sure a large number of Ayurvedic research Scholars and professors will be coming to major U.S. Universities from India. At present more than 1000 highly qualified Ayurvedic Physicians are already in U.SA. from BHU and other Universities in India and more will be coming. Many Ayurvedic doctors are teaching in Universities and doing research in pharmaceutical and health food companies.
Dr. Pati a graduate in Ayurvedic medicine from Calcutta was the first well qualified doctor who came to U.SA. He is an advocate who has promoted the age old medical science, Ayurveda in many western countries through his publications and websites.
Dr. Pati says, we need our strength in technical expertise in the fields of Medicinal plants, plants chemistry, biotechnology, phyto-chemical, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, Analytical chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, pathology and clinical research in order to do advance research in Ayurvedic medicine.
As Dr. Pati was born in Balasore (Orissa), he approaches to Government of Orissa to pay more attention for the development (studies, research, manufacturing, exporting and treatment of Ayurvedic medicine) of Ayurvedic Medical Science in his own State where it is more neglected than rest of the country. For example, in a State like Kerala, 50% income of tourism is based on Ayurvedic Therapy, which is being offered to foreigners and local Indians. Why not in Orissa?
Orissa Government must recognize, it is a medical science and it is a big industry which has a domestic and export value. Approximately 3 yrs. back, Dr. Pati launched the largest Vitamins and Natural Supplements Store in Singapore’s Peninsula Shopping ctr. A special website could be found for this outlet www.firsthealthfoods.com
Furthermore, Dr. Pati encourages Ayurvedic students, professors, Physicians and researchers to work together for the advancement in research on Ayurvedic medicine, the present and future of natural health care system. Ayurveda medicine is not only used for a cure, it is a preventative health care science.
Two things Dr.Pati intends to do in his home land, Orissa.
Dr.Pati intends to build a Clinical Research Institute on Phytonutrients and Phytochemicals, nutritional and biotech products at Ayurnagar One.
